In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, providing customers with a seamless and secure login experience is essential for retaining engagement and expanding your business reach. Salesforce Customer Identity offers an innovative solution, allowing customers to access your Salesforce org using their social network credentials. This not only enhances convenience but also ensures a consistent user experience across devices. Here’s how you can implement Salesforce Customer Identity to boost customer satisfaction and business growth.
Benefits of Salesforce Customer Identity
- Customers can log in once to access various services, such as Sales and Service departments, without needing multiple logins.
- By offering access to meaningful data and third-party apps, you can engage and delight your customers, encouraging them to visit your org regularly.
- Implementing Salesforce Customer Identity can help attract new customers, increase profits, and expand your business reach.
Salesforce Customer Identity requires a user profile with an External Identity license, a role, and an account to contain your customers’ information. The steps are discussed below.
- In your Salesforce org, Set Up a Profile for Your Customers: Salesforce includes a default profile with an External Identity license. Clone the External Identity User profile and name it “Customers”. This profile determines what users can access after logging in.
- Add a Role: Create a “Customer Manager” role for the person managing the site and add it to the role hierarchy.
- Assign the Role to a User: Assign the “Customer Manager” role to a user.
- Create an Account: Create an account named “Customers” to store user information.
Managing Salesforce Identity via Experience Cloud Sites
You set up and manage Salesforce Identity for customers through Experience Cloud sites. Using the Communities license that you get with Salesforce Identity, you can create and deliver pages for your customers and partners to self-register and log in to your site.
- Enable Experience Workspaces: This is the first step to set up an Experience Cloud site. You need to enable Digital Experiences in the settings.
- Create Your Site: After enabling sites, you can create your first site using templates provided by Experience Workspaces.
- Use profiles to control access and ensure that only authorized users can access your site.
- Publish the site, review the new pages, and activate your site.
- Open your site URL in a private browsing window to see the login page as new users would.
- Customize the login page by replacing the default Salesforce logo with your own.
Above, we discussed the initial setup for implementing Customer Identity in Salesforce. The next steps involve creating a self-registration page and setting up social sign-on, which will be detailed in an upcoming article.
