We have explored descriptive insights of data in Einstein discovery in our previous article Explore data insights in Einstein Discovery – Mortgage Banking Technology | Origination Strategy Consulting (takefiveconsulting.com). In this article we will dive into diagnostic and comparative insights in Einstein discovery.
Diagnostic insights
Extracted from the model, diagnostic insights unveil the reasons behind occurrences. They delve deeper, aiding in the comprehension of which variables exert the most significant influence on the analyzed business outcome.
While descriptive insights tell you what happened, diagnostic insights tell you why it happened. Diagnostic insights help you take a deeper look into the factors that led to an outcome. Einstein Discovery derives diagnostic insights from the model it produces during model creation. Einstein uses waterfall charts to visualize diagnostic insights.
To see diagnostic insights, select a variable (Race) from the Variables panel and then, from Choose Value, select a value for the variable (American Indian or Alaska Native).

Comparative insights
Comparative insights, also derived from the model, illuminate discrepancies in the outcome variable by juxtaposing two specific subgroups. These insights dissect factors such as categories or buckets, comparing their impact on the outcome against other factors or global averages. Visual aids like waterfall charts provided by Einstein Discovery facilitate the visualization of these comparisons.
Comparative insights represent a specialized form of diagnostic insights. While a diagnostic insight dissects the difference between a particular subgroup and the global average into contributing factors, a comparative insight performs a similar analysis but between two distinct subgroups. Einstein Discovery derives these insights from the models it generates. To explore comparative insights, select a variable (e.g.,Race) from the Variables panel. Then, choose a category for the variable (e.g., American Indian or Alaska Native) from the “Choose Value” option. Next, select a second category (e.g., Japanese). This process allows you to examine and compare the impact of these two categories on the outcome.
