CMS stands for Content Management System. Salesforce CMS is a hybrid CMS that helps you easily create and deliver content to any channel or device. Salesforce CMS workspaces can be used to create and manage your content to be published in Experience cloud sites. Workspaces also help limit access to the content. We can add Experience cloud site as channel in the CMS workspace, so that any content shared in the workspace can be made use of in the experience cloud site. This article provides an overview of Salesforce CMS.
Where can we find CMS Workspace?
- The Digital Experiences app, accessed from the App Launcher in Salesforce is where we can create new content, manage its lifecycle, and assign the content to publishing channels such as a site, community, Heroku site, Marketing Cloud, or Lightning apps, where the content is shared with users.
- Content is organized under different CMS workspaces.
- Each workspace can have its own contributors, language settings, and channels.
- Workspaces enable you to bring together material from both the CMS and CRM data sources. These Workspaces are specific to particular publishing channels.
- Within an organization, there can be numerous Workspaces, each tailored to different needs, featuring diverse publishing channels, content types, and contributors.
For accessing CMS Workspace,
- Go to Digital Experiences app
- Click CMS Workspaces
- Click Add CMS workspace

We have created a Workspace called ‘ACE Capital Borrower Workspace’ to add content which has to be used in the Borrower portal experience site we built earlier. Add Channel to the Workspace
When you associate a channel with a specific workspace, that channel can be utilized to access any content within that workspace. If there is content in your workspace that you prefer not to share, make sure to relocate that content to a different workspace.
We have added our Experience page ‘Customer Account portal’ as a channel to the ‘ACE Capital Borrower Workspace’. All content in the workspace will be now available to the Customer Account portal experience page.

Add Contributors to the Channel
We can now add users or public groups as contributors to the CMS workspace by assigning them an access role. A contributor’s access role is specific to a CMS workspace.
There are 3 roles
- Salesforce admin:A Salesforce admin has full Digital Experiences app access (including all workspaces); control over all site and digital experiences settings; and can create Experience Builder sites, apps, and email templates.
- Content admin-These contributors have access to all content in the CMS workspace and can manage contributors and content sharing. Content admins do the bulk of the work in the CMS Workspace.
- Content manager-can write and publish new material.
Click Add Contributors.

- Search for users or public groups.
- Next to the users or public groups that you want to add, click Add.

- Click Next.
- For each user or public group, assign a contributor role.

These contributors have access to all content in the CMS workspace and can manage contributors and content sharing.

Add languages to the Workspace
- Having localized content is a key part of the Salesforce CMS implementation.
- We can choose workspace languages and a default language.
- This helps content creators to flag content for translation and upload translated content into the app.

Now the workspace is ready. You can start creating and add content to the workspace. We will cover about Content creation in a later blog.
