In How to create Prompts in Salesforce Lightning-Part 1 – Mortgage Banking Technology | Origination Strategy Consulting (takefiveconsulting.com), we learned how to create a floating prompt in Salesforce Lightning. In this article, we will discuss how to create a targeted prompt, docked prompt and walkthrough in Salesforce.
Targeted Prompt
Targeted prompts offer the same advantages as floating prompts but without the limitation of nine preset positions. By connecting a targeted prompt to a specific page element, users are precisely directed to the relevant feature or content, enhancing clarity and usability.
Click on the Targeting mode button to enable targeting. You can select any component on the page to target the prompt into.

Docked Prompt
Docked prompts serve as valuable aids when users require reference material while independently exploring a feature. Differing from floating and targeted prompts, the docked prompt remains fixed on the screen as users navigate through the application. It is ideal for presenting persistent content, like step-by-step instructions or multimedia guides, seamlessly integrated into users’ workflow. Employ a docked prompt to display final steps or key takeaways, particularly effective in concluding walkthroughs.

How to create walkthroughs?
We can link multiple prompts to create a hands-on interactive tour that helps onboard users or introduces new features. Each prompt will serve as a step in the walkthrough.
- To begin the walkthrough, first choose the prompt type, location, and position. For the prompt selected in each step, select a custom theme color, then click Next.
- Next, enter a prompt title and body text. If you’re creating a floating or targeted prompt, add a label for the Dismiss button. Optionally, include images.

- For a docked prompt, provide text for the extra header and, if desired, embed a video.
- To add another step to the walkthrough, click Add Step in the In-App Guidance Builder header.
- Save your changes
- In the In-App Guidance Settings window, specify additional options for the walkthrough. You can add an optional action link for the final step, schedule the visibility of the walkthrough, restrict access to specific profiles or permissions, and copy the walkthrough’s URL.
- On the Details step, enter a name and an API name, then save your changes.
- In the In-App Guidance Builder, click Done.
