We have covered the initial setup of Salesforce customer identity in Streamline Customer Access with Salesforce Customer Identity – Mortgage Banking Technology | Origination Strategy Consulting. In this article we will guide you the next steps of configuring Salesforce customer identity.
Adding Self-Registration to Your Login Page
Now that you have created a login page, the next step is to add a Register option by setting up Self-Registration. Follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Customers workspace in Salesforce.
- Enable self-registration for customers and partners.
- Configure the registration settings and save the changes.
- Register a new customer using the self-registration link on the login page.
- Enter the customer’s details and complete the registration process.
- Salesforce creates a User record and a Contact with the provided information.
- The Contact is associated with an Account.
- The User record is assigned the appropriate profile and license.
Customizing the Login Page with Visualforce Pages
For advanced customization, use Visualforce pages to enhance the design and functionality of your login page. Tailor the look and feel to align with your brand identity, creating a seamless user experience.
Setting Up Social Sign-On
Social sign-on allows users to log in to Salesforce using their social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Google). This provides a convenient and secure experience for users. To enable customers to log in with their social credentials, you need to configure an authentication (auth) provider for the social account.
Create an Authentication Provider
- Navigate to Setup and select Auth Providers.
- Configure the necessary settings for the social account.
- Log In with Facebook
- After setting up the auth provider, add the social account as a login option on the Login & Registration page.
- Test the login process to ensure it works correctly.
- Update the Registration Handler. A registration handler (sometimes called reghandler) creates and updates a user on the fly with identity information pulled from the authentication provider.

Connecting with Individual Customers in Salesforce
Salesforce provides two types of accounts: business accounts and person accounts. For B2C models, person accounts are ideal for managing individual customers.
Enabling Person Accounts
- Before enabling person accounts, create a record type for business accounts.
- Once person accounts are enabled, they cannot be turned off.
Configuring Self-Registration for B2C Customers
- Update your site’s public access settings to include both business and person record types.
- Remove the default account in the self-registration settings to ensure new users are created as person accounts.
- When an individual self-registers, Salesforce creates a person account, a contact, and a user for the B2C customer. The user is assigned the specified profile.
By implementing Salesforce Customer Identity, you can deliver a streamlined login experience, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive business growth. From setting up profiles and roles to enabling self-registration and social sign-on, these steps will help you build a secure and engaging platform for your customers.
